Maternity Questionnaire
Monday, 19 February 2007
ImageAs you may be aware a new building is being planned at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital for maternity services. This was agreed following a public consultation last summer, where it was decided that obstetric services for the county would be relocated to one site. There will still be birth units run by midwives in Cheltenham, Stroud and Gloucester.

We are now carrying out a survey so that we can gain an understanding of what is important for women about the environment in which they give birth. The results will help us in planning the new maternity unit at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital - due to be completed early in 2010.

We would like you to complete a questionnaire regarding your experiences of the environment in the maternity unit if you have had a baby in Gloucestershire in the last four years. Please click on the following link to print the questionnaire: http://www.gloshospitals.org.uk/ppi/pdf/maternity_questionnaire150207.pdf

This message has been circulated to all staff within Gloucestershire Health Services and other public services.

As most of you will be aware, the TUC is leading a massive “Defend our NHS” campaign, entitled “NHS Together”, supported by Health and other trade unions.  They have called for a day of action in defence of the NHS on Saturday 3rd March 2007.  This is to raise with the public concerns in defence of our National Health Service and the negative direction in which it seems to be heading.

Primary Care Trust Boards Reach Decisions
Thursday, 21 September 2006

Image   NEW:  PCT Decision - Leave us your feedback online now ! and let the Campaign team know what you think about the decision to have a Midwife-Led-Unit in Cheltenham.

Primary Care Trust Board members met today (Thursday 21 September) to reach decisions regarding the outcome report from the consultation on ‘The Future of Healthcare in Gloucestershire’ which included feedback from the public, partners and staff.

With regard to Maternity Services, the PCT Boards decided to:

  • Approve the proposal to centralise all consultant led births onto the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital site
  • Considered the proposal to transfer all midwife-led births and other inpatient admissions to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and decided to Not proceed with the original proposal as set out above on the grounds that affordability is not seen as sufficient reason to centralise midwife-led services when taken alongside the view that the proposal runs contrary to current national direction for more local access to services.

Our Petition - What others have said!

My daughter was born in Cheltenham Hospital and it saddens me to think that other expectant parents will not get the chance to experience the high standards of service we received. By closing our local provision will surely only encourage home births which in turn will put pressure on midwives and cost the Government more anyway?
